Book IV includes cemetere inscriptions from Beech Grove Cemetery which is one of the earliest burial grounds in the area. It is located at Mounds, IL., north on Route 51. The old entrance was on the western edge. Many burials, due to neglect and/or unmarked, especially along the 'old burial ground' area, are lost. Vandals destroyed a mausoleum many years ago.
Many Alexander County residents made Beech Grove their final resting place. Beautiful iron fences border some lots. Huge, old, beech trees grace the western slope.
Beechwood Cemetery, often referred to as Thistlewood, joins Spencer Heights Cemetery on the northern edge. The creed and wooded area is not kept up, except for a few lots.
